About us

Istanbul University Language Center is one of the oldest units of our university. The department, which was founded in 1933 under the name of the “School of Foreign Languages” in the Faculty of Letters, started to work as a unit affiliated to the Rectorate starting from 1961. In 1975, the department moved to its own building in Süleymaniye, and was renamed "Department of Foreign Languages" in 1983. In the following years, with the increase in the interest to Turkish as a foreign language, as well as to other foreign languages, in order to serve people who are not Istanbul University students, after leaving the Department of Foreign Languages, Istanbul University Language Center got established in 2000. Due to the interest in our Center, our building failed to meet the student demand; therefore, in 2010 in the Tophane district, in 2014 in Avcılar Main Campus, Istanbul University Language Center began to provide services with its new branches.

MISSION
The main objective of Istanbul University Language Center Foreign Languages Program is to develop teaching methods and environments in parallel with the general vision of our university and international qualifications, and to help our students develop their own learning strategies by offering them the opportunity to learn foreign languages with the most modern techniques, methods, and approaches. Our immutable principle in line with this objective is to be a distinguished education institution without compromising the standards and qualities of our university going back hundreds of years.

VISION
Istanbul University Language Center Foreign Languages Program aims to enable participants to acquire the necessary foreign language knowledge and skills by combining theoretical education with practical training while providing education. Within the scope of these objectives, our institution maintains the quality and standards of Istanbul University in all its activities. It organizes foreign language education programs and courses for public, private, and international organizations and individuals in the areas they need at national and international levels. Istanbul University Language Center organizes foreign language education programs and courses on national and international platforms to the extent demanded by individuals and institutions.
